Instructions

  1. Clean buttons with rubbing alcohol to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Set aside.
  2. Wearing rubber gloves, mix 2 tablespoon of Rit DyeMore for Synthetics with 1 tablespoons of very hot water in a squeeze bottle. Repeat with additional colors as desired.
  3. Fill remainder of squeeze bottle with lotion. Secure the top and shake vigorously until dye is mixed with the lotion.
  4. Create a bed of lotion on a baking tray or protected surface.
  5. Apply the dye lotion mixture on top of the bed of lotion.
  6. Use a toothpick to marble and swirl the colors into the bed of lotion.
  7. Place clean buttons from Step 1 with right side down onto marbled designs and apply light pressure.
  8. Let the buttons sit overnight.
  9. Once set, remove buttons from bed of lotion and rinse in warm water to remove any lotion residue.

Ombré Dip Dye Sneakers

You will need:

Instructions:

  1. Clean shoes with acetone and a cotton pad. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.
  2.  Remove laces and set aside.
  3. Using vinyl tape and an x-acto knife, tape off sections of the sneaker that you’d like to keep white.
  4. To create your dyebath, fill a stainless steel pot with 3 gallons of hot water. Cover pot and heat water on stove top to just below boiling (or 180 F°).
  5. Wearing protective gloves, carefully add hot water from the stove top into two separate containers for dip dyeing.
  6. Wearing gloves, add 1/2 bottle of well-shaken DyeMore for Synthetics in Sapphire Blue and mix well with tongs.
  7. In the second dyebath, add 1/2 bottle of well-shaken DyeMore for Synthetics in Royal Purple.
  8. Carefully add half the sneakers into the Royal Blue dyebath and keep submerged for 5-10 minutes or until desired color is achieved. Sneakers will float to the top so make sure to keep it submerged with tongs for the duration of the dyeing process. (Optional: You can also toss your laces into the dyebath).
  9. When desired color is achieved, remove sneakers from the dyebath.
  10. Give it a quick rinse in warm water.
  11. Add the other half of the sneakers into the Royal Purple dyebath and keep submerged for 5-10 minutes or until desired color is achieved.
  12. Rinse in warm water and then gradually cool water until rinse water begins to run clear.
  13. Allow sneakers to air dry!
